As a newcomer to Nigerian cuisine, “Nigerian Flavors” has been an incredible adventure. The book is a feast for the senses, showcasing the rich traditions of Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa food. Even better, many recipes use ingredients readily available in typical US markets.

So far, my favorite recipe is Efo Riro. This Yoruba spinach stew is a delightful mix of fresh vegetables and spices. Made with ingredients like spinach, bell peppers, tomatoes, and onions. Recipe called for goat meat, I used chicken but I’m sure beef would work great as well. The vibrant flavors and aromatic spices make it a new favorite in my kitchen.

Exploring these recipes has made me appreciate the depth and diversity of Nigerian cuisine. I can’t wait to continue this culinary journey and discover even more delicious dishes!

I liked this cookbook containing traditional Nigerian dishes, which really presents very appetizing dishes to the readers. I was very happy to find this writing, because Nigerian cuisine was completely unknown to me and there are many dishes that I would like to try in the not-too-distant future. I very liked the rice and meat dishes, but the different soups also looked very delicious based on the pictures and recipes. The book is well edited and easy to read, the pictures are clear and easy to see. I recommend this cookbook to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the gastronomy of Nigeria.

Although I don’t know much about food and I am not a foodie, this book is a passport to the rich culinary heritage of Nigeria. This book takes you on a flavorful journey through three of Nigeria’s most prominent cuisines: Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa. Detailed recipes alongside clear descriptions allow you to recreate dishes like the fiery Igbo stew, Ofe Nsala, or the comforting Yoruba spinach dish, Efo Riro.

I love cooking and am always on the lookout for new cuisine, flavors, or recipes. Before I picked up this book, Nigerian cooking was entirely foreign to me. To sum it up, wow! These recipes are packed with flavor, and I love all of the interesting cultural backgrounds of Nigerian cooking generally and the specifics associated with different regions. I do want to say that this is not for the casual cook or someone with a limited palette. Some recipes have ingredients that may be hard to chase down, some of the flavors will be new to the reader, and some recipes are quite involved. With that said, if you are an adventurous chef, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

Really great to try something new. In addition to many interesting and carefully explained recipes illustrated with color photos, the book also contains an informal introduction to Nigerian cuisine – which I personally think is really great! You can’t expect much more from a good cookbook!
